December 19th

Today is the theatrical anniversary of one of my favorite musical films, Little Shop of Horrors. Directed by the legendary Frank Oz, the puppeteer behind a number of classic Muppets including Miss Piggy, Yoda, and Bert. This musical is an adaptation of an off Broadway musical based on a B-movie. The film is the story of Seymour, a mousey floral shop employee played by Rick Moranis, and how he bites off more than he can chew taking care of a talking plant named Audrey II.

Okay, spoilers on this next part if you haven't seen the movie but are interested. One thing this film is known for is its ending being changed after negative test screenings. The film was originally produced to have the stage production’s downer ending where everyone dies and Audrey II turns into a Kaiju and attacks New York. Everyone in testing hated it, so they changed it to something a bit more lively. The alternative ending was famous for being lost media for a bit, but it got remastered in the mid 00's and is currently available online.
