July 1st

Today PG-13 as a film rating was announced. Gone were the days of a film having to be either PG or R. There are two films people say caused the PG-13 rating to exist. Both were PG films that were just a bit much for most people but still not on an R rated level, and ironically both had the same legendary filmmaker's name on them. The films in question were Gremlins and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, so we are dealing with Steven Spielberg. Spielberg claimed that he suggested the intimate rating of PG and R himself, something I'd call poohey on if it was anyone beside Steven Spielberg. After being announced on this day in 1984, the first film with this rating, Red Dawn, came out the following August. Also as a note, Davespid wrote the next two articles. So if you think I sound weird on the 2nd and 3rd it's because it's not me. It's the site's contributor, David.

Replying to

I feel like both were fruits of Spielberg having a good relationship with the MPAA
