Today in 1969, a very important and still running children's show first hit the airways. Sesame Street was created by TV producer Joan Ganz Cooney and psychologist Lloyd Morrisett as a way for children, particularly children from lower income families, to educationally prepare for school. Needless to say, their plan worked and the show is considered a keystone of children's television to this day.
Now the one thing most people remember the show for is its puppets. Cooney and Morriset hired the legendary Jim Henson and company to provide puppetry for the show, and it really became a major part of the show's identity. What often gets understated is the original animations in a variety of styles also present in the series. All in all it's a great way to introduce a number of visual mediums to kids alongside the more academic and emotional education present in the show.
