Well, we visited the Finch house and I'm not ready to fully report back my finds yet because the situation is becoming more complicated than previously expected. I will say that nothing went wrong, but nothing went as expected either, but I think once I get everything untangled, I'll be able to close this case. This being said, I will definitely have everything together before the month ends. As for now, how about some specials.
I will have the disclaimer that there are some specials that fit on the list (for example the Halloween tree, or the tv show Moville Mysteries), but I've given them their due in daily articles and I don't want to repeat myself, you know.
Underfist (2008)-
This Halloween special is one of my personal favorite failed tv show pilots. Originally pitched as a full sequel series to The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, this special takes a bunch of memorable supporting characters from Grim Adventures and puts them into a superhero team that has to save Halloween and the world from a diabolical marshmallow bunny. I've watched this special every year since it first aired. If you haven't seen it before, or just haven't seen it in a while, give it a go, especially if you are a fan of the original series.
Scary Godmother (2003 & 2005)-
Scary Godmother is a Character created by "The Sandman" illustrator Jill Thompson, who appears in a series of children's books and two movies. For this spot I'm recommending both of the movies. The CGI is good for a direct to DVD movie from 2003. The bulk of both movies are Halloween parties filled with a fun cast of monster characters, including the titular witch, her gay skeleton roommate, an anoying wearwolf, a vampire family, and bugaboo. It's just a must watch in my book and I probably the one special I've seen the most people I know go out of their way to watch each and every year.
Halloween is Grinch Night (1977)-
A chronologically ambiguous continuation of How the Grinch Stole Christmas, this special is the one of the few Dr. Seuss animated specials not directly based on one of his books (the others being "The Grinch Grinches the Cat in the Hat", "Pontoffel Pock, Where Are You?", And "The Hoober-Bloob Highway"). This story is about the grinch coming out his hole on a night of bad weather to unleash monsters on the poor Whos and the only person who can stop him is some kid who got lost looking for the bathroom. To be the shorts a fair bit slower paced than my description might imply, but there is at least a cool surreal animation sement where the Grinch is performing psychological warfare on the bathroom kid.
The Adventures of the Scrabble People in A Pumpkin Full of Nonsense (1985)-
There are a good amount of so-bad-it's-good Halloween specials and this is probably one of them. Loosely based on the board game Scrabble, this is barely a Halloween special but has just enough going on for October centric syndication. The hero of the story is some guy named Mr.Scrabble who goes into a giant pumpkin with some trick or treaters to save a town plagued by illiteracy that is legally mandated by a evil but mundane looking wizard. This short is absurd and otherwise awful and I recommend you watch it.
