Today is National Banana Split Day. I should probably talk about the food, but I can only think of the Banana Splits TV show. I watched it all the time on Boomerang when they used to show it. The show was a mix of live action framing and both live action and animated segments. To be completely honest most of the segments they had in between are probably quite racist, but the framing was early Sid and Marty Krofft, so that's fun. They even had a furry virtual band. Here are a few good covers of their music that are in my personal playlists.
They also made a horror movie out of the series’ framing furry band semi-recently, but to be honest it's an in name only retool of what's obviously a rejected Five Nights at Freddy's movie script, changing the characters to animatronics, something they objectively weren't in the original series. Following this, the band is present as recurring villains in the TV show Jellystone, which I recommend if you did watch Boomerang as much as I did.
[EDITOR’S NOTE: If the entire premise of your horror project is “wouldn’t it be cool and mature if a nostalgic media property associated with childhood killed people?” without any deeper creativity, you’re gimmicky and I hate you. If you take that and make it clear that you don’t actually know or care about the source material and are just using the license to be audacious, I super hate you. Subversion of familiar innocence for horror and shock can be done well, I’m just very choosy. We get it, you sang Barney Murder songs to taunt your little sister.]
Ughhh, I hate the shallow edgy reboot trend too. I've gotten my fill of that stuff from creepypastas in 2011 I'm not going to pay to see someone do it slightly worse than a kid that's too young to be on the website talking about how pepa pig bit his sister or something.
