Today is Gingerbread House Day. I'm going to cut to the chase, I'm going to use today to talk about the National Gingerbread House Competition. This annual competition is held in Asheville, North Carolina. The fun part of this competition is that all the gingerbread houses have to be edible, so you have people doing wild things with different edible materials. I recommend looking up some of the past winners on this one, because what people have done in the gingerbread house medium is incredible.
I did attend the competition once when I was a little kid, before I turned five, and I don't remember much except for a vague sense of whimsy. That and someone had salami and gave me and my twin a slice. That was my first salami and I've loved cold cuts ever since.
