Today in 1953, a beautiful and terrifying experiment in limited animation first hit theaters. Another stylish short from UPA and directed by Ted Parmelee, The Tell-Tale Heart is an adaptation of the Edgar Allan Poe short story of the same name.
UPA's signature limited art style is turned to horror with an incredible effect in this short, and the end result is surreal and haunting. It really is one of those short films where every shot is its own work of art. It follows its source material very accurately and really captures the dark atmosphere the works of Edgar Allan Poe deserve. If you are looking for something spooky to watch in under 10 minutes, this is a hard recommendation.
