Today I have to tell you about a beautiful and underrated Christmas special from a legendary animator. Will Vinton was the man who not only coined the term claymation, but mastered the animation style as well. Among his films, short films and work in advertisement, he did three holiday specials. My favorite of the three is the Christmas special, Will Vinton's Claymation Christmas Celebration.
The special is a collection of animated music videos to Christmas music, and its spirited energy makes it stand out in my personal holiday special collection. In my humble opinion, the best segment in the special is its take on "Joy to the World", which features some of the most beautiful animation I've ever seen elevated by a wonderful soul rendition of the classic carol. And the California Raisins are there too. All in all, if you celebrate Christmas, you need to watch this at least once this year.
