Today is the anniversary of the most CGI movie I can think of, Beyond the Mind's Eye. Released in 1992, this is the second of the 4 films in the mainline Mind's Eye film series. It is also the most popular film in the series. In particular, it's remembered for its synthesized soundtrack, which was composed by "Miami Vice" composer Jan Hammer.
This is, first and foremost, this isn't a movie with a plot, it's a series of test demos strung together as one long music video set to 80's sounding Synth Pop. And it's really fun to watch and see what bizarre, beautiful and/or surreal imagery crosses the screen next. This film is currently very accessible as the full thing was put on YouTube by Jan Hammer himself. If you haven't yet, give this one a watch, and know there's a dozen more films like it if you enjoy taking in old CGI. Although I will give a content warning for a bit of artistic nudity in the Early CGI people. If you don't want to see that, there was a censored version of the film sold exclusively at Radio Shack .
