Hello world, it's Calexta
Today is National Apple Pie Day. In my mind, when someone says pie, I know apple is the first flavor that comes up in my mind. Now when you go into dessert history, pie, similar to cake, goes back to people trying to do something with the grain they had and honey. That being said, savory pies filled with meat are just as ancient. In the middle ages savory pies took over, as sweet pies took a backseat to the newly invented tarts. Then Shakespeare times kicked in and fruit pies really became a thing.
Much like cake, I love a good and beautiful pie, but unless the pie looks really good and the cake looks awful, I'm going to choose the cake every time. My favorite thing is this one style of open apple pie where the apple slices are cut thin and stacked like rose petals. That being said, a pie with a decorative crust also always catches my eye.
