February 20th - Columbo

Today in 1968, television's greatest detective had his first outing. Columbo is a mystery show where you start by witnessing a murder and then a funny little detective comes in and solves it before the hour-long episode wraps up. What makes the show really satisfying is the murderers are pretty much always snooty rich people who just think they are just good enough to get away with murder. No matter how hard they try, they are always foiled by Columbo, who just has such an attention to detail he knows when things don't add up the way they were described to him.

The other really good thing about the show is Columbo himself. He's just got a great energy. He loves his unnamed offscreen wife, his pet basset hound named Dog, cooking, and meeting celebrities. He is also good at clicking details of his case together, and will double down on his investigation when things aren't clicking. All in all, if you want to see a mystery unfold backwards or see a funny detective solve serious cases, I can't recommend Columbo enough.

That gets the brain cogs turning. Imaging Columbo on a legitimately paranormal case. Maybe It was really Columbo's ghost or something, given the year.

Marble Hornets would have ended a lot differently if there was a master ghost detective the entire time.
