Today in 1996, a video game that would take over the world was first published. Pocket Monsters: Red and Green are the now legendary first games in the Pokemon franchise, a game series that started with 151 species of magical monsters and now the newest Pokemon game has Pokemon with four-digit National Pokedex numbers. It doesn't hurt that Pokemon has become one of the world's most popular media franchises in that process.
The thing is, these two original games never actually came out in the United States. The games the rest of the world received were built from translations of Pokemon Blue, a third version of R&G that received a substantial update, the most notable of which is that all the Pokemon art was redone. A lot of people think the Pokemon these resigns was most necessary for is Mew, as it went from looking like a strange fetus to looking like a magical cat. Good for it, as it is really cute now.
OHHHHH MY GOSH!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY POKÉMON I LOVE YOU!!!! one of my TOP most favorite franchises since I was little!
I was going to add something but I'm a bit distracted by the state of the website
Early builds of pokemon fascinate me, some of the quirkier stuff (like Psychic pokemon being insanely OP and No-miss moves not being programmed properly, as well as the infamous Missingno) helps me appreciate how far the games have come
