February 9th - Nanalan'

Today is the birthday of a Canadian preschool show that had a clip go around online a while back. Nanalan' is a tv show about a weird puppet child named Mona visiting her Nana's house.  There she spends most of her time in her grandma's backyard with her Dog Russell (or Russer as Mona calls him). I find the show charming but bizarre. This is probably best illustrated in the Pea Pod episode that went viral, where Mona makes an attempt to name all the veggies in her Nana's garden.

Nanalan' was created by The Grogs, a Canadian puppetry duo that disbanded in 2009. Aside from some other kids programming, their best known series was the teen oriented Mr. Meaty, a gross out puppetry show on Nickelodeon I only remember not wanting to watch because I don't like gross-out stuff. The puppetry in that show probably is technically impressive, it's just not my cup of tea.

I remember Nanalan, but I had no idea they also did Mr. Meaty! That show messed me up good as a kid I'm pretty sure

Yeah it seems like it was well made for what it was, it's just the thing being made was gross puppets and I don't know how many people like gross puppets
