Today is the birthday of the Rubik's Cube. A Rubik's Cube is a 3x3 puzzle cube. Without a doubt the weirdest thing about this classic toy is the animated adaptation they somehow gave to a cube of colored squares. "Rubik, the Amazing Cube" was half of the " The Pac-Man/Rubik, the Amazing Cube Hour" series from Ruby-Spears. And I think we need to appreciate how stereotypically 80's a Pac-Man & Rubik's Cube Ruby-Spears cartoon is. Anyway, the premise of the cartoon was that a Rubik's Cube with a horrible little bootleg E.T./Yoda creature inside and a group of Hispanic children would fight an evil magician who wanted the puzzle goblin for himself. The cartoon ran for 13 episodes and is mostly remembered today for being bad and weird. Even as someone who finds cheap cartoons endearing, I hate this show because the Rubik's Cube creature is just that unpleasant to listen to and look at.
