June 15th - Global Wind Day

Today is Global Wind Day, and can I just say wind would sound totally fake if I never expected it before. Like think about it, like air just gets really strong and fast because the earth warms up unevenly. And it feels either really nice or awful depending on how hot or cold it is. You gotta appreciate that physics just lined up well enough that we have wind at all. One thing that's kinda fun that humans do is all the different ways you can harvest the power of wind. Kites, sailboats, gliders, windmills, turbines, those freaky kinetic sculptures. If you haven't before go look up wind powered sculptures. Theo Jansen in particular, he has these amazing beasts made of wood and fabric that scuttle across beaches, powered by wind. They absolutely look like something out of a dream. That's your wind day homework, search engine what a strandbeest is.
