Today is the Birthday of a TV channel that's definitely in my top five TV channels by how much I've watched it over the years, Animal Planet. Animal Planet is the top channel for TV shows about animals in particular. Generally, these shows tend to fall in one of three main categories: pet shows, wild animal shows, and animal worker shows.
Shows about pets are great if you want to know too much information about dogs and cats, which I do. But despite this, the funniest episodes of any pet TV shows cover anything but a dog or cat. The wildlife shows either give you miscellaneous nature film clips or clips of one animal in particular strung over a narrative. The third class of AP show is "a human that works with animals shows you their job".
[CONTRIBUTOR’S NOTE: Best AP show back in the old days was The Most Extreme. Sure, it fits the “wild animal shows” category, but it’s in a class of its own in my book because of the way it relates nature facts to human facts (see this episode that starts by telling the story of how wasps inspired the invention of paper).]
There's my contributor's note! :-)
