Today in 1988, what has to be the most technically impressive film I've seen made its debut. Who Framed Roger Rabbit is the best live action/animation hybrid film ever made and nobody is even that close to matching it. It's easy to say they don't make em like this anymore, but there's no way this film would have gotten the resources it took to pull it off if it was made today.
With as popular as crossovers are nowadays, I feel like what makes crossovers exciting has been lost. Part of the magic was seeing something you know wasn't supposed to happen. You know copyright dictates Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny can't hang out together. Then they were on screen together, It's magic. When you know a movie is being made just as an unskippable prequel to a more expensive movie, it doesn't hit the same.
