Hello World, It's Calexta
Today is the birthday of a lovely game in the Kirby video game series, Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards. While I love everything about this game to bits, from the art and music to the story and King Dedede having his first real go at being Kirby's friend, I want to talk about this game's ending.
Now probably one of the most memorable parts of this game to me is its secret true final boss of the game, Zero-Two/02. Despite how cute Kirby is, his games are known for their striking and often macabre final bosses and 02 is considered one of the series darkest.
02 appears first as a floating angelic blob with a smiley face not unlike an otamatone, before its cute dot eyes disappear and it opens its mouth to reveal a red eye, its lips becoming eyelids. And then you shoot the game's titular crystal shards into its eye and 02 starts crying blood.
If you have not seen this guy in action before, you can always look up gameplay on YouTube, but you have to imagine the shock of anyone who didn't know that was coming and just wanted to see a cute video game's true ending.
One last thing, I know Tabby has taken some article space for diary reasons in the past, and I need to steal that Idea for part of this article. I'm writing this in early February, and Tom is having nightmares again. He's already washed the bone again, and he plans to stay over at my house for further treatment overnight just in case it doesn't work. If anything happens after I write this, jinxes damn me, I'll at least have a little hindsight.
Ohhh this game! I never played it, but I've watched LPs and wow. Yeah the final boss still blows me away, especially for the time. I appreciate that it started (i think?) the trend of putting Kirby's face on final bosses when they want them to be extra creepy
