Today's Mickey's mouse's secret real debut date. It's common enough knowledge that Steamboat Willie came out November 18th,1928 and was Mickey mouse's public debut; however, Steamboat Willie was actually the third Mickey Mouse short produced. That same year on May 15th, the first finished Mickey Mouse short, Plane Crazy, was given a private test screening, thus giving a lucky few a preview at a character that would become a media juggernaut.
Despite this early screening, Plane Crazy was not publicly released until March 17th 1929, making it the 4th Mickey Mouse cartoon in the official count. It should be noted that the short was updated to have sound between its first showing and its proper debut. I don't have much to say about the animation itself. Imagine a bunch of rubber hose cartoon animals mucking around with early homemade airplanes. That's what happens.
