Today is the anniversary of the movie 2006 Over the Hedge. I probably don't talk about as many animated films as some of my friends reading this might be expecting, but I'll make an exception for this DreamWorks film people don't even remember ironically. Anyway, I remember being at a birthday party as a child, saying it was the objectively best film I could think of, and none of the 3-5 kids I was with disagreed with me. I no longer hold this opinion.
Over the Hedge is a movie about a raccoon that has a snack debt to a bear. He tricks a bunch of forest animals that had a suburb develop around their forest home to help him steal food from humans. It was based off a newspaper comic, but it's like 30% in name only and like 60% of the characters are original to the movie. Avril Lavigne voices a possum. Why did I ever think this was the best movie ever? Kids are weird, man.

I'm glad this one brought up some good memories for you. I haven't seen the movie in a long while but I feel like I still remember the plot well enough. That Bear had such a large amount of food at the beginning and I can't remember if he said where he got it from but I can't imagine too many senarios where a bear would get that much human food without someone getting hospitalized. As for the voice acting, I can't think of any DreamWorks films from that time that didn't have star studded casting.
OVER THE HEDGE!!! It's a very special movie to me. I was a little kid at my grandparents' house visiting for a week, during which at some point my grandma put it on for me. It's so weird and corny, I love it. Now that I'm older with experience, I was really surprised to go back and recognize more names: Catherine O'Hara, Eugene Levy, Steve Carell, Wanda Sykes, WILLIAM SHATNER... They really said "let's get an all-star cast for a movie about goofy forest animals stealing snacks". And Nick Nolte is the scary evil bear. Of course Nick Nolte is the scary evil bear.
