May 30th - Mel Blanc's Birthday

Today is what would have been the 113rd birthday of a man said to have 1000 voices, the one and only Mel Blanc. Best known for his work on Looney Tunes, The Flintstones, Heathcliff, and a bunch of others.As for the 1000 voices thing? According to the voice acting website "Behind the Voice Actors", he actually has 1183 voice performance credits. Now I have to talk about the coma thing because it's peak "believe it or not". In 1961, Blanc was in a car accident and was in a coma for two weeks, and when brain surgeons were trying to call him out of it they weren't getting a response. They then tried asking not for Blanc, but for Bugs Bunny, and Bugs responded. And yes, according to Mel's son Noel, he responded with "yeah, what's up doc?” Blanc made a full recovery, and lived for another 30 years.
