Today in 1940, an animated film considered by some to be one of the best ever made first hit Theaters. Fantasia might be the magnum opus of Walt Disney productions as it existed in Disney's lifetime. The film itself is a series of Animated short films set to classical music. The movie was originally a box office bomb until the 70's when Disney put it back in theaters with some trippy looking posters, and people started watching it for 70's reasons.
Anyway the main feature of the movie is the fact it's basically a classical genre music video compilation, and to be honest, I don't know why we don't have more animated musical anthology films in general. I'm not satisfied with just Fantasias and the Mind's Eye franchise. I'd really love to see more musical anthology films. Something about stringing together music videos for a film like pearls on a choker is just one of my favorite things.
[EDITOR’S NOTE: If I recall correctly, Walt agreed with you. He’d planned to turn Fantasia into a regular series, but when you’re both an artist and a man running a business, sometimes you have to put passion projects away when they won’t put bread on the table.]
Thanks for coming over last night and watching this one with me. also wow, is this my first time commenting on the new site layout?
