Today is Mickey Mouse's birthday. Mickey Mouse was Created by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks after Disney figured out a little too late that he never owned their previous shared OC Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Most sources say Iwerks did most of the actual designing but Disney did everything in his power to make sure everyone thought he designed Mickey Mouse all by himself afterwards. I'm making sure you know otherwise because I know too much about him to respect him.
Anyway let's actually talk about Steamboat Willie, because Mickey's birthday is tied to the release of this short, which was the third Mickey Mouse short produced but the first released publicly. Steamboat Willie is inspired by the song "Steamboat Bill", which is a song about a steamboat race. Steamboat Willie has the steamboat,but instead of a race there's animals in a band. And a mouse peeling potatoes. Anyway it's still a classic short and if you're never seen it before you should look it up.
