November 22nd

Today is the anniversary of probably the most infamous TV hijacking in US history. This day in 1987 someone in a Max Headroom mask hijacked two different Chicago tv stations. The first hijacking was a brief and silent interruption during the evening news, and it was brushed off by the live anchor.

The big flashy interruption that everyone talks about happened during an airing of Doctor Who on the local PBS station, and being an airing of Doctor Who on PBS, someone was actually recording at home at the time, so the whole thing is still available to watch today. But yeah, someone dressed as everyone's favorite AI brainscan of a man with a concussion interrupted Doctor Who to say some expletives and show everyone their full moon getting hit with a fly swatter. And there's still no consensus on who did it after all these years, but whoever they were, they knew a thing or two about TV broadcasting most people don't.
