Hello World, it's Calexta
Today is National Cake Day. Now cake is my favorite food, I don't have it very often but something about a good fluffy cake with a rich icing done up to the nines, you can't beat it.
Historians have solid evidence that as old as flour and bread making goes, people have been trying to make something else out of the bread making process, often with honey, nuts or berries. The idea of a cake as decadent baked goods covered in sugar icing, however, is far more modern. The oldest recipes for classic three layer iced cakes are as relatively modern as the mid 1800's.
In modern times, talented bakers and cake decorators are often found using cake as a medium for intricate ephemeral sculptures that taste as good as they look. One major trend is hyper realistic cakes that are made to mimic other foods or inedible objects just to be revealed with the soft incision of a cake knife. Personally, I like those cakes that are detailed but visually play up that it is in fact a cake. Also, I will definitely spend a few hours watching cake decorating videos today, and I'm sure Tom will join me.
CAKE. I’m obsessed with one type of cake, butter yellow recipe with buttercream frosting. My mom taught me her tips and tricks to make box cake better, especially to have a soft, squishy, fluffy butter yellow cake. Melt the butter before you put it in. Beat the eggs before you put them in. And mix a lot extra, get a LOTTA air in that batter, so it’s thick and creamy and not too runny. I don’t know if people knew that already but baby, this is the best cake on Earth. CAKE.
