November 30th

Today is National Mason Jar Day. A mason jar is specifically a glass jar with a double metal screw lid that is particularly airtight, which makes it ideal for food preservation where said airtight seal could be the difference between dill-icious pickles or dangerous food poisoning. Do you research before attempting home canning, and make sure your preferred method is up to contemporary health standards.

Aside from pickling, a lot of people just find mason jars charming and aesthetically pleasing. There's a whole genre of recipe that's just dishes made in mason jars, often salads or parfaits. It's also a popular non conventional cup for people who want a little non typical cup action in their lives but want to be subtle and humble about it. Personally I'm more of a kitsch theme park souvenir cup guy. But I will admit I like being a little bit more visually loud than the next guy. Unless the next guy is David or something.

I LOVE MASON JARS. Call me a Basic Betty but I love putting drinks in jars. I think more people should drink from jars. I’ve had several coffees in my trusty mason jars. I drink water from the mason jars. I put tea in the mason jars. There’s a restaurant I‘ve been to with a friend that serves you drinks in mason jars. It’s called Mason Jar. Their nachos were spicy.

Oh the idea of a mason jar restaurant sounds really cool, and I'm glad the jars have served you well as cups too.
