Today is the anniversary of what might just be the most important footage in all of cryptozoology. While a lot of people don't know the Patterson–Gimlin Film by name, if you are reading this you have more than likely seen it a few times. It's that one bigfoot clip where the creature is just taking a walk. You know the one.
The big question is if the footage is fake or not, but the truth of the matter is buried under about twelve different levels of hearsay and failed reverse engineering. A number of individuals have all come out with conflicting information about how it's fake, and so even if it is fake, we have no idea how it was done. Explanations for how it's a hoax range from gorilla suits to the bigfoot just being an extremely impressive animated effect. Regardless, no matter how hard people try, over and over, nobody can recreate the footage perfectly. And if it is a fake it was made with 1967 special effects. This is one topic in particular I encourage you to do your own research on, as it's an interesting rabbit hole where any answers are fuzzy at best. Fuzzy like a bigfoot or 60's home video.
One of my top favorite cryptids! Maybe Bigfoot is a little overrated from a favoritism standpoint but there’s something charming about a big sentient ape creature sauntering around some woods. As you may have noticed, my profile picture is an old toony doodle of Bigfoot I did!
Happy birthday bigfoot 👣
