Today is Mule Day. Mules are an example of something extraordinary becoming mundane because it's the most common example of its phenomena. As, if you are unaware, a mule is the hybrid of specifically a donkey father and a horse mother. And it has to be a jack and a mare, because of how specific the hybridization proceeds.
If you breed a male horse and female donkey to acquire your equine hybrid, you won't get a mule. You will instead get a hinny, a distinct animal from the mule. Regardless, both species display hybrid vigor, where they express excesses in desired traits present in both species they are hybridized from. However there are trade offs for mules and hinnies– outside of being the best of both donkeys and horses, both species are unable to reproduce. Infertility is a very common trait in hybrid species.
