Today we are talking curses. [EDITOR’S NOTE: We are? Sweet! #@!$ and &%.] As you know, curses are a nasty part of life, but sometimes they break before doing too much damage. Today's curse was only named after its damage. The Boston Red Sox is an American Major League baseball team known for winning five of the first 15 world series and then not winning any more until this day in 2004. This 85 season championship drought, the third worst in MLB history, was attributed in the 90's to the Red Sox selling the contract of the legendary Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees in 1919. This is known formally as "The Curse of the Bambino".
The breaking of this curse is commonly attributed to a tooth sacrifice during a game on the 31st of August earlier that same year. The night was already a full moon and the Yankees had had their worst loss in team history, a 0-22 to Cleveland, the same day. Then, a teenage Red Sox fan, who was living in Babe Ruth’s old house at the time, had his two front teeth knocked out by a foul ball hit by his favorite player on the team, Manny Ramírez. If that's not conditions to break a curse under, I don't know what is. The Red Sox have won The World Series three more times since 2004, so it seems whatever bad mojo came to Boston in Ruth's absence is gone for good.
