red planet day

GOOD MORNING, I'VE TAKEN OVER THE WEBSITE TODAY. MWAHAHA! But fear not, site readers. The only person on the receiving end of my evilness is Tom and only Tom. To the rest of you, I'm actually here to tell you about a neat little holiday going on today—Red Planet Day. That's right.

Red Planet Day is obviously dedicated to Mars, referred to as the Red Planet because its surface is rich in iron oxide—or rust. But more specifically, it commemorates the launch of the Mariner 4 spacecraft on November 28, 1964, which completed the first ever successful flyby of the planet and returned with pictures of its surface.

Humankind has been captivated by Mars for thousands of years, and Red Planet Day is a celebration of that. Keep an eye out for it in the night sky, especially on the upcoming days, it'll be closely approach Earth after all. Alright Tom. I guess you can have your website back now.
