Today is Dot Day, and to be honest, this feels like a holiday that would be more relevant to kindergarten teachers than it would be to me. It's an observance dedicated to the humble dot, as a way to encourage creativity in children. This holiday is tied to a children's book by Peter H. Reynolds, something I didn't realize when I chose it as a topic. I could talk about a book I've never read or I could wax on about dots in general.
Dots really are a modest thing. A circle too small to be called a circle. A line too short to be a line. Just a speck, but enough of them together and you have polka dots. Also, did you know polka dots are called that because polka was just a buzzword at the time the pattern became trendy? It's like rave pants now. I'm sorry to any kindergarten teachers who came here to read about Dot Day and found me talking about rave pants.
