Today is the anniversary of the First American Monument. I could talk about monuments, but the monument itself is cooler than the monument process, and I'm just copying and pasting "monument" at this point. The monument is called Devil's Tower, and if you are a big fan of Spielberg you are definitely already familiar with it. If you don't know what I'm talking about, the mountain was heavily featured in the 1977 film "Close Encounters of the Third Kind".

It's been a while since I've watched that movie, but I remember some French guys with the US military trying to stop this dad from seeing a UFO, and he gets so mad he starts sculpting the devil's tower out of mash potatoes. And that mash potato tower ended up a Halloween costume for the King of Town one year. And I think he got to see the UFO again then. Phone home or something.
