Today is Avril Lavigne's birthday. And while I love the song Sk8er Boi as much as the next boi, I'm here to talk about something in Lavigne's career that isn't her music. I'm going to talk about people lying about her being dead. So likewise, content warning for a suicide that never happened.

In 2011, a blog from Brazil entitled " Avril Está Morta", which is Portuguese for "Avril is Dead", popped up on blogspot.  This blog [WEBMASTER NOTE: view at your own digression, also it's all in Portuguese] which is still up as of writing, has a single post, which has been updated since its original upload, details the theory. It talks about how Avril had a body double to help her hide from the paparazzi, and they were good friends. However, it claims that Avril committed suicide in 2003, and her double took over her life in her absence, there's a lot of subliminal hints to this with her music. If this sounds familiar, people say the same thing about Paul McCartney from the Beatles. This blog post also ends with a message telling you to be careful what you believe, and likewise none of it is actually true. The Avril Lavigne we have now is the same one who sang Sk8er Boy and maybe I'll look more into the original post sometime.

[ASSOCIATE NOTE: To elaborate on something Tomtab Half mentioned, there was a similar conspiracy theory regarding Paul McCartney. The theory, collectively known as "Paul is dead", details "evidence" that Paul McCartney died November 9, 1966 and was replaced by a lookalike. McCartney was able to fight off the rumors by publicly not being dead.]

[EDITOR'S NOTE: AS FAR AS WE KNOW.

…no, seriously, don't throw yourself into conspiracy theories. They don't do any good.]
