September 29th

Today is Goose Day. A goose is a sort of water bird similar to a duck, but larger and they are also generally considered a bit more foul. [EDITOR'S NOTE: fowl] The big thing more than anything is that they are territorial, especially if they have babies. If you ever get attacked by a goose, there's a large chance it was just an anxious parent.

Geese also seem to have a special place in nursery rhymes with Mother Goose. Mother goose is a surprisingly mysterious figure. Her origins are hotly debated. Some people try to point to one of several dozen historical queens that had weird/flat goose feet, including Bertha of Burgundy, Bertrada of Laon, and even the Queen of Sheba herself. That being said, a number of other historians think someone just made her up. Regardless, she should be fine as long as she doesn't lay any golden eggs.
