Today is Hummingbird Day. Hummingbirds are a quick little type of bird. I've seen plenty of hummingbird feeders swarmed with the little guys over the years. Hummingbird food is easy to make, as it's just a 1:4 ratio solution of sugar to water. Just boil the water, add the sugar and let it cool completely before putting it in the feeder. However, make sure you don't use sugar substitutes– sweet syrups such as honey, corn syrup, maple syrup, etc. are likely to make the hummingbirds ill. There are a number of store bought mixes available, but experts advise to not use any without good research first, as some brands contain dyes that might be harmful to birds in general.
Also, can I just say, it seems like nobody talks about how aggressive these little guys are. Like, for every mom aesthetic hummingbird tranquility item ever passed through a thrift store, a hummingbird has beat up another hummingbird five times. And it's usually over food or territory. I'd say in general, hummingbirds are probably angrier than gesse, but they are so small and zippy most people just take them to be tranquil little beasts. They really aren't.

When I used to visit my grandparents in the Adirondacks, I used to see hummingbirds nearly every single time. My grandma was very in tune with nature and an avid gardener, so naturally the cabin was surrounded by plentiful gardens of well-tended flowers.
