Today is National Saxophone Day. The saxophone is considered a very cool instrument often played by guys wearing sunglasses. Today is chosen as saxophone day because it's the birthday of the instrument's inventor Adolphe Sax. He invented the instrument in 1846, and today people play it all around the world.
I should mention that the saxophone is only the most famous of the instruments Sax invented, and all of them do fit the naming theme of starting with his last name. The Saxotromba, to me, seems to be a near hybrid of a french horn and a trumpet. The Saxotromba is often confused for the Saxhorn, which seems to have more tuba DNA than its ‘tromba sister. Then there's the Saxtuba, and that looks like something out of a Dr Seuss book with its single, long, curved bell. So happy birthday to Mr.Sax and all of his fascinating instruments.
