Today in 2009, the longest running Cartoon Network original series ended after a ten year run. First airing in 1999, Ed, Edd n Eddy was an animated TV series created when Canadian animator Danny Antonucci, known for his work on MTV, was dared by a friend that he couldn't make a kids show. After ten years of working on that show, however, Antonucci and his team at Aka Studios had to wrap things up, and did so with a bang.
Ed, Edd n Eddy's Big Picture Show is a deeply satisfying conclusion to the long running series. Without giving too much away, the story starts with higher stakes than the series has ever had and pans out these stakes with a lushly animated road trip with all the series' characters on the move. And the climax of the film really feels like a climax for the series as a whole, a moment everything was building up to. If you are familiar with Ed, Edd n Eddy but never caught the final episode, I can't recommend this movie enough. And if you have seen "Big Picture Show", well, you already know exactly what I'm talking about.
[ASSOCIATE NOTE: Man I remember when this aired. I was just a year off being really into the show at the time and I remember getting pulled right back in and going wild. That big reveal at the end, I'd never thought it would happen but it did and it was glorious. I wonder if any of my friends from that time are still actively online. Shout-out to Ligerlemon and Wikiforcars if you are still out there somewhere...]
